Crash Overcast unveil their debut album, “When All The World’s Asleep”

French hardcore punk band, Wake The Dead, has recently released a third album titled “Still Burning”. The guys took some free time to answer a couple of questions linked to this new release. Check out what we talked about below!

Wake the Dead

Hello Wake the Dead, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it?

Wake The dead is a ten years old band. We’ve played more than 340 shows in a decade all around the world. It’s a bunch of long time friends with the same passion for hardcore, punk and music in general. We are a 5-piece band and our actual line-up since 2018 is composed of Vincent (singer), Léo (drummer). Yvan (bass player), Guillaume and Nicolas (guitar players).

Our Guitarists Guillaume and Nicolas and also our bass player Yvan are here since the beginning of the band. They created it with Jeff the original singer and Fabien the original drummer. They all were in the same scene, setting up shows and playing in different bands and decided to start this project eager to do a modern hardcore band.

How would you describe the French hardcore scene?

The hardcore scene is not an easy scene. Especially in France, where people are more into metal stuff or other kinds of music. Years after years, a lot of venues/places closed their doors and it’s sometimes difficult to make extreme music. But it remains people to set shows and helps us in many ways, for food, sleep and also distribution of our music everywhere we go. Through difficulties, hardcore is always a huge family! In our hometown Marseille we have a bunch of people connected that are doing DIY music and keeping it alive for 20 years, and it’s not the end.

We have too talented bands such as Landmvrks, DirtyWheels, CheatxDeath, Nebraska. And had some in the past few years like Downhill, Apache, Odyssey, WalkAway, etc… and venues involved too like Le Molotov, La Salle Gueule, thanks to those people we can say that hardcore lives!

You guys are back with a music video for your single “Lone Wolf”. What’s the story behind this song?
.

.

Vincent (singer): When I wrote the lyrics of “Lone wolf”, it was coming from something deep and emotional. In your life you can meet a lot of people: Sometimes they are bad, and sometimes they can become your friends. But in the end, who’s remember your existence? In a way, we are just passing through people life, as they are passing throughout ours. And one day everyone can forget all about you. The only things remain will be what we have done and share all together. This song’s lyrics match with the next song of the album “Back for more”, because you can also come back in any time to see peoples or someone if you missed him and make another part of the road together. This is the more important thing to remember. Even if everyone lives their own lifes, we are not alone.

How was the shooting experience?

For this video clip we ‘ve ask to TRE film if they can help us and make a movie for us (You can find him there https://tre.lv). We love his work he did with landmarks, Stick to your Guns and more. We have send him lyrics and also some ideads, of someone who’s running away, like a wolf, and this is the awesome result he did.

This song is taken from your new album, “Still Burning”. How long have you worked on this record?

We’ve already written some songs before Vincent and Leo joined the band. The hardest part was to create songs without a singer and a drummer. This is not easy to imagine what a song could sound like without a voice or drum part. Then, when Vincent and Leo came with us, we could perform these songs as a full band. We tried with Vincent’s voice to make few tries and it worked well. So, we composed more songs that we mixed with those already done. Since the beginning, we worked for almost 2 years to create, try and record this album all together. It took a little bit longer because we had to discover each other and mix with our two new members and their own influences. Leo made awesome drum parts that inspire us to take a direction more metal than usual. We mixed everything with Vincent’s voice and then, after a lot of work, the new Wake the Dead band was born, and Still Burning as well.

If you had to pick one song that best reflects the spirit of this release, which one would it be and why?

Definitely “Back for More”. After the departure of our drummer and singer, we spent a long time trying to find who could join the band. A long time spent, without shows. When Leo and Vincent joined us, we worked harder than ever. We missed the scene, we missed working all together. It was a necessity for us to be back, stronger and harder than ever. The song “Back for more” clearly defines us. What we’ve been through and what we are now.

How do you spend your time during the quarantine? Do you guys find a way to stay in touch and keep on practicing or writing songs, even from home?

We’ve already made few video calls by phones and cameras to get in touch and see how everyone goes. On our last tour, we’ve discussed how we can manage some time to compose all together. This virus screwed the last part of our tour and probably our next shows until a long time, but in a way, it also gave us the time to compose. Yvan and Guillaume are already working together writing new songs. We try to discuss to see what works and what doesn’t. It’s a special time for everyone and also for us. But except staying home without doing nothing, we take our guitar/bass/drums/microphone and we are already composing new songs for the future!

The last words are for you. If you have any other projects in the making, please do not hesitate to talk about it.

We’ve dropped out our new music video “Lone wolf”. More will come after everything calms down. For now, the important thing is to keep a positive mind and support your scene: friends, bands, promoters and venues who helped us. So, if you like us, or any other band, do not hesitate to listen to their music on every platforms, to share it or even grab some merch if you can!

Thanks for your time!

Musically,
