Ozone, from the punk band Loser Points, took some free time to answer a couple of questions for us. Learn more about the band’s latest single “Warren & Jimmy” as well as their upcoming EP, set to be released… soon! Check out the full interview below.

Loser Points

Hello Loser Points, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it?

Hello, my name is Ozone and I play drums in Loser Points. We are based in Edmonton, Alberta. We have Shawn Taggart on vocals & guitar, Kurt Anderson on guitar & Dave Lukic on bass.

With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your band?

It has been a good year for us so far. We completed our most recent tour on March 1, right before Canada shut down. We released “Games We Play To Hide” in April, and have released “Warren & Jimmy” on August 14, with more releases planned for the rest of the year. We have been able to explore creative methods that have become commonplace in other genres, but don’t seem to be as prevalent in guitar-driven music, and it has allowed us to prolifically forge ahead.

As you’ve said, you’ve just dropped a new single, titled “Warren & Jimmy”. What’s the story behind this song?

A few years ago, we had a fan record a song with us, which Shawn wrote specifically for that recording. That song was what became an early version of “Warren & Jimmy”. The song has gone over well live, especially with our rotating cast of guitar players and fill-ins. With Shawn and Kurt permanently manning guitars, they shaped the song into something different enough that we thought merited a proper recording. We worked with Cody Blakely at Half Stack Studios, recorded and produced the track remotely, and it turned out wonderfully.

It comes along with a music video. How was the shooting experience?

We did this video during quarantine, so we went with the home video style. We each setup cameras and played along to the song in our houses. We had some fun with it and are happy with how it turned out.

I heard that you also plan on dropping a new EP this year. How long have you worked on it?

That is true, although it is more so a collection of songs than an EP. We have recorded eight tracks from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which will be released in late September. This has been in the works, at least conceptually, for 4-5 years now. Shawn and Kurt met for the first time performing in the band for a community production of the Rocky Horror Show in Yellowknife, NWT. In Loser Points, we played a Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show set for Halloween a few years ago. Shawn has a pretty amazing way of covering songs, so it seemed only fitting that we record a few of our favourite songs from it.

We actually have not announced this release yet, so breaking news , keep an eye out in September! Again, Cody Blakely is handling the technical audio tasks while we record remotely.

Releasing something often means tour support. Do you guys already have some dates planned for the end of the year or 2021?

We are more than happy to continue to record and release music for fans to enjoy in their own spaces until there is an indication that mass gatherings are a legitimate possibility.

The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance!
