Bare Teeth – “Bridging Oceans” (split review)

The new EP from Bare Teeth is a decent record to listen to. The instrumentals are tight and driving, the melodies are catchy and mosh-worthy, and the harmonies have a very Offspring quality to it.

“Bridging Oceans” - Split Visual

The weaker points of the album are when screaming takes over as the songs move into a more hardcore direction versus straight-up punk.

It seems like Bare Teeth isn’t certain of its identity at times, and this can confuse the listener. The music is at its best when it is evoking punk from various California scenes and at its shakiest when moving into a more hardcore direction.

If I were to give the band any advice it would be to focus on its pop-punk/skate-punk sounds as they just fit the band’s songs better.

The identity crisis keeps the record from being great, but it is still worth a listen.
