We’re once again going overseas with this brand new interview with the UK alternative rockers, Air Drawn Dagger. Learn more about their touring experiences, as well as their upcoming projects below!
Hello, Air Drawn Dagger! Thanks for your time! Would you mind introducing your band to our readers?
Sure! Maisie – vocals / Lewis – guitars, Ross – drums.
For those who have never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
An eclectic mix of Electronic, Grunge, Punky – Angst- Pop sounds… AKA “Sasscore”.
Back in 2018, you toured the American West Coast without the help of any label or management/booking agency. What prompted you to take such a challenge?
We tour the UK extensively and have always dreamt of playing in the states. Instead of waiting for some mystery gatekeepers to provide an opportunity, we made one. We worked really hard and achieved it ourselves instead.
Months later, was this a good or bad idea? Would this be something you could do once more or would you, next time, use the help of a manager?
It was a gamble but luckily it paid off. The outpouring of support we had from fans, musicians and industry professionals was unreal. Everyone really rallied behind us to see if we could pull it off and have stayed with us on our journey since.
Whilst things can be easier with a team supporting you, we proved that it’s not essential. We toured another continent with only our fans behind us.
What’s your best memory from this American tour?
We had some days off that were spent on Santa Monica beach, we also saw the worlds largest tree and had a day in Vegas (which is mostly a blur, to be honest.) It was surreal to play the Viper Rooms on Hollywood Boulevard too. The strip has so much history so to experience that first hand was incredible.
We also nearly got shot when Maisie took to the mic and kicked a biker gang out of their own bar… but that’s a story for another time.
I heard that you are soon going to release new music. Would you mind sharing your plans with our readers?
We have been writing like crazy and building our own studio out of recycled music equipment in order to get more music out. The songs are next level and having our own space to demo and record has really allowed us to develop how we craft material to ensure that everything is the best it can be.
Speaking of new music. How would you describe the writing process you have within the band?
It’s fun. It ranges from Maisie & Lewis working a skeleton of chords, lyrics and melody before Ross shapes and builds it, to us jamming out an idea or crafting some electronic parts. There isn’t a set process which keeps it fun and the music diverse.
Thanks for your time! The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance!
Our message is simple. You shouldn’t accept who you are. You should celebrate it.
If us three weirdoes can pop confetti cannons and wear feather boas whilst singing about our issues, we invite you to do the same.
New live shows, music and content coming really soon.
