Premiere: Discover Wes Anderson’s pop-punk anthem, “I’ve Got Your Back, Kid”!

Wes Anderson has been playing guitar for over 20 years now. He handled lead guitar duties for the Chicago band Shanghai Superstars (2010 – 2012), Fiction 20 Down (2012 – 2015), Big Infinite (2015 – 2018), and is now finally branching out to start his own venture!

Through this new project, Wes really wants to release different styles of songs that he could probably never do being in a band, and pop-punk is one of them! Which is why we’re really happy to premiere Wes Anderson’s new single, “I’ve Got Your Back, Kid”. This song will be officially out on March 8th, so mark your calendars!

On this release, Wes explains: “This song is me, releasing my inner Weezer, The Rentals and New Found Glory fanboy in me. For this song, I wanted to put out something high energy, simple, and fun. Although it may sound that way to the listener, there was still a ton of studio work that went into it to make it sound as good as possible.

Lyrically, the song is a narrative about having that devil on your shoulder throughout your life, always telling you to do the wrong thing. In this particular case that devil is named “Ocky Bop”, which is mentioned in the song, but also a character created by the guy who did the cover art for me. I love his character and it’s super cool we were able to use that in the artwork as well as the lyrics.

What I personnally loved the most about this song is its catchy pop-punk vibe that makes you shake your head to the beat of this track. The song also features vocal work by Howi Spangler of the band Ballyhoo!, which is amazing, because I’m a huge fan of this band as well!

On collaborating with Howi Spangler, Wes comments:

I live in Maryland, so I’ve actually been friends with the Ballyhoo! guys for some time now (also a huge fan). Howi did the vocals for my first solo release called “Moments In Time” and I thought he’d even be a better fit for “I’ve Got Your Back, Kid”. Adding Donald on drums was another bonus, and luckily I was able to get him in the studio before they went on tour again last Summer. But working with those guys is awesome. They’re total pros, cool dudes to hang with, and just fun to collaborate with.

With each song I do, I want to make sure the style fits with what the collaborator is already doing with their own project, but also a little bit on the fray of it so it’s new and fresh to them. I think this song embodies some of the punk rock Ballyhoo! vibe but still a little different from what they’re used to.

Don’t waste a single second and discover without further delay the pop-punk anthem, “I’ve Got Your Back, Kid”, below! You won’t regret it!
