The Dystopian Project – Interview

Hey. Valentine recently had the opportunity to sit down and talk to The Dystopian Project

Learn more about the story behind the band and their upcoming EP in the interview below!

Hello there, hope you’re doing great! First of all, how did you guys come together as a band? Hey there, thank you. We came together about 4 years ago now. Ivan had just left the band he was fronting and wanted to try a different dorfection muscially. Himself and Hytham are old friends so they got talking and decided to work together. Darrin drummed in Ivan’s previous band and was interested in the direction that they were taking. Soon after Phil was on board and then Tess followed suit.

What’s the story behind your bands name? The name is taken from the the name and lyrics of a song off our debut EP. The song is called Dystopian. We had a few names previous but they were either used by other bands around the world or the kind of wore off us.

I lived in Dublin for a few months and I saw that it was a great place to play live. Many bars, people in the streets… What do you think of the music scene over there? Its a very vibrant music scene, many types of music and each with a venue to match. There are always live bands on somewhere in Dublin at some stage.

Speaking of playing live. How do you usually promote your band and shows?  We are currently in the process of getting ready for our live debut on the 4th of Dec. Posters and a Facebook event for the gig is how we are doing this time for the first show.

Who are your biggest personal influences? We hve many infulences that shape each one of us. But the few stand out ones we have in common with each other would be Pink Floyd, Metallica, Porcupine Tree.

What are you currently working on (EP, music video, tour…)? Our second EP “Paradigm” is currently beng mixed and mastered as we speak, for a release early next year. We are also putting the finishing touches to a music video for the lad rack off it, “Ashes of Time“.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Playing and writing! It never stops for us. Some are hardcore gamers and we have an MMA expert in our midst too 🙂

What advice would you give to fellow bands? Keep writing, recording, writing and recording. Find yourselves first, and the audience will find you.

Favorite band and/or song? That kind of question could start a fight! 🙂
